Language and manners civilize us. The overall purpose of manners is to treat others with kindness and respect, that we may live in a civilized society. We are responsible for our own behavior and others judge us by our behavior and our language.
Crude and vulgar language comes out of crude and vulgar mouths, and generally precipitates crude and vulgar behavior.
If we wish to live in a peaceful, civilized world, we must begin by being peaceful and civilized within ourselves, within our families, within our workplace, and within our relationships.

Regardless of what is going on around us, let us strive to do what is right, and what is honorable. Whether we believe in karma, Universal Law, or God's final judgement, it is in our own best interests to live honorable lives. By doing so, we honor ourselves, our family and friends, and God.

On this anniversary, let us remember in prayer and in peace all those who lost their lives in the Twin Towers, and all those who lost their loved ones in that tragedy. May they all be at peace.
Let us also hold in prayer and in peace those whose minds are so filled with hate and anger that they plot and cause these horrific events to occur. Our prayers may be the ones that shift their thoughts from the evil that fills their minds.
Let us pray for peace within ourselves and within all others. We know that God's love can conquer all things, and that peace will prevail upon this earth and in the minds of all. Let it please, God, be soon.

The Bible tells us, "Be it done unto you according to your beliefs."
Just in case you believe there really is a heaven and a hell, decide which you prefer and live accordingly.
Just in case you believe in reincarnation, live your best life now, acquire wisdom in this lifetime and you will more wisely choose your next lifetime.
Just in case you believe in karma, so live that your future karma will be only positive. Save yourself time and anguish. Learn the lesson the first time.
And just in case you believe "we pass this way but once," make this "once" the best you possibly can. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others. Learn to live in peace.

Today's thought: Work and Prayer
A friend once told me the Jesuits have a saying, "Work as if everything depends on you, and pray as if everything depends on God."
There are those who offer up their work to God on a daily basis, with the intention of offering Him only their best. Kahlil Gibran has written, "Work is love, made visible," and we see how true this is when we see a mother and father caring for their child.
Be grateful for work. It stimulates the mind, exercises the body, helps define who we are, and pays our bills. No matter who we are, or where we are, we all have bills to pay. Be grateful to those who employ you and those who buy what you make. Be grateful for all you are able to do. Be grateful to God for without Him, nothing exists, and nothing is possible.
Wishing you the blessing of loving the work you do, a deep sense of prayer and gratitude to God and to all those who worked with love for you.....and peace, joy, and love, always.

Today's thought: 'Bread upon the waters'
"Cast your bread upon the waters, and it shall be returned to you a hundredfold," is a quotation I remember from the Bible. It is another way of saying that whatever we do returns to us, multiplied. Another reminder for us to be mindful of what we say and do.

Today's thought: Human or spiritual beings.
Some say we are human beings seeking a spiritual experience, and others say we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Either way, we are having both human and spiritual experiences.
We all need love; we all need forgiveness; we all need compassion for ourselves and for others. Love, forgiveness, and compassion are both human and divine. The more we give of any quality, the more we become that quality. Let us remember that we are 'only human,' forgiving ourselves and others; and let us never forget that we are children of God, destined to be reunited with Him, and open ourselves up to God's limitless grace and, thereby, become more spiritual.

Today's thought: Do good.
Whenever we can, let us do something good, no matter how small, neither for earthly recognition nor for heavenly reward, but simply for the act of doing good. Love and compassion grow within us when we do something good for others. God will know and you will know, and that is all that matters.
